Mr. Swartwood has been the principal at Golden Valley since the 2015-2016 school year. Prior to his principalship, Mr. Swartwood was an associate principal, the founding athletic director for Golden Valley, and a science teacher. His passion is supporting staff in effectively serving students with engaging, rigorous instruction. Since coming to Golden Valley, he has successfully implemented multiple programs within the school to better serve students.

Matthew came to Golden Valley as an English and Theater teacher in 2012. Prior to that, he worked at Atwater High School for four years. Matt is a Common Core early adopter for the district and has worked for two years writing and testing CCSS curriculum. Matthew has presented his CCSS experience at conferences throughout California.

She has been a 1:1 teacher for four years, and has been doing some form of flipped teaching for the past seven. Stacey has presented at multiple conferences, including CUE Rockstar, Fall CUE, the Central Valley Math Project, and the California Science Teacher Association Conference. She is a Certified Google Education Trainer and a Leading Edge Certified Digital Educator.

Mike is a charter teacher at GV. His experience includes designing a site adopted Integrated Science curriculum for freshman, teaching Integrated Math, Chemistry, AVID, and Physics. Early training focused on cooperative learning, Science as inquiry, and the activity-based classroom. He is available to troubleshoot classroom problems relating to both content delivery and student management. He especially wants to help others cultivate inquiry and collaboration in their classrooms.

Annette is our Instructional Coach, specializing in teaching strategies and literacy and is a Google Certified Individual. Prior to being an Instructional Coach she was a BTSA Mentor for three years and an English teacher for seventeen years. She is also our district coordinator for Character Counts and a UC Writing Project Fellow.

Marianne has been teaching in the MUHSD for the past eighteen years and has spent the last eight of them as a Cougar here at GVHS. Marianne has taught English 2, English 3, REACH, and Strategic English courses. In the past few years, Marianne has mainly taught English 3 and has been integrating the use of technology in her classroom while also changing her style of teaching to one that is student centered . Marianne is excited to be a member of the ILT team mainly for the learning opportunities she will have as she collaborates with other teachers.

Alynne is a math teacher who has taught all levels of high school mathematics. Currently, she teaches AP Statistics, Financial Algebra, and Preparing for College Math. Alynne is a creative educator who is skilled in using technology to engage students in learning. Outside of the classroom, Alynne spends many hours volunteering as a Guide at the Monterey Bay Aquarium, where she shares a love of learning and the world around us with people of all ages from around the world.

Victoria is an Integrated Math III teacher who has spent her entire nine-year teaching career with the Golden Valley Family. She is a Common Core early adopter who considers herself an emerging technology specialist. She is working hard and experimenting with technology in exciting and engaging ways. Victoria is known for her ability to build a positive classroom climate and regularly volunteers outside the classroom to support students in a variety of capacities.

Mikendra has more than eighteen years in the world of education with significant adventures along the way.
Before coming to GV, Mikendra taught English and competitive speech and debate (Forensics) at Clovis East High School. While Forensics has nothing to do with dead bodies, she coached kids to “kill” the competition! She is a three diamond coach with the National Speech and Debate Association, Vice President of Public Relations for the California High School Speech Association, and a coach for hire with online company 3P Speech, an author and ninja in training. |
Tara is our new Teacher Librarian. Before becoming librarian, she taught various levels of English. As an active teacher leader and consultant with the UC Merced Writing Project and California Writing Project, her main focus of inquiry is how to leverage technology in order to make stronger writers and more critical readers.
